PROPOSED WILDLIFE ORDINANCE -- A WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING?
Bel-Air residents have unanswered questions and concerns and demand clarity regarding the proposed Wildlife Ordinance. To be clear, this ordinance will put significant new restrictions on otherwise permitted building modifications on your property. In short, this is a proposed ordinance that is set to further restrict square footage, grading, building envelope, and landscape in the “hillside zone” for every single Bel-Air property under the guise of wildlife and ecological preservation . This has the potential to significantly devalue all homes in our community.
Many concerned residents have contacted our office upon the release of the draft ordinance on Friday, November 8th and subsequent word of a scheduled November 19th public hearing by the Los Angeles City Council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee. The deluge of stakeholder phone calls and emails sent from Bel-Air and other associations and individuals throughout the affected hillside communities has led to a postponement of the hearing to a later date.
To help you clearly understand how a proposed Wildlife Ordinance impacts your property, the Bel-Air Association will be hosting a webinar in January with a panel of professionals who can answer your questions and provide the clarity that you need.
In the meantime, we have been notified that Council District 5 will be hosting a virtual town hall to discuss the proposed measure on Wednesday, November 20th. The Bel-Air Association encourages your participation so you can understand what this proposed measure means for your property. You must RSVP to obtain the virtual link. (See below for details.)
